Pick a potluck
Potlucks are an excellent way to get to learn about each other’s tastes and the traditions of your extended family. Create a list of signature dishes by each guest so there are no repeats.
Cue Cards
Consider recipe cards as a reunion party favor. Ask each guest to bring as many copies of their recipe as expected attendees. Then lay them out on a separate table for guests to take; Save as a memento of the day that they can use again and again. The best recipes also tell a story about where the dish came from or who developed it.
Made in the Shade
Choose dishes that hold up well outside in a shady spot. Cold salads, fruit, cookies, pies, and fried chicken are ideal.
Kidding Around
Reunions are for everyone, young and old. Make youngsters feel especially welcome with their own kid-size picnic tables and chairs. Consider a smaller table of favorite foods for their own pint-size buffet.
