What Is Wee Web?

Get the lowdown on a site that keeps you connected to your grandchildren

by Jackie Albanese

Our Review

Here's the lowdown on a site that keeps you connected to your grandchildren — and why you should try it.

You love being kept in the grandchildren-loop: a phone call here, a set of photos there, and updates on important (or even not-so-important) milestones is enough to send you over the moon. But in a world of busier-than-ever lifestyles and far-flung families, staying connected is often a challenge. Suddenly, that call to you to share Susie's first word, or an e-mail with photos from the holiday play at school takes a backseat to everything else. A company called Wee Web is helping to bridge the gap, aiming to keep grandparents (and other relatives and friends) up-to-date on family happenings.

What Is Wee Web?
A free, easy-to-use website designed to keep friends and family members "in the loop," Wee Web lets you share and receive stories, post and view photos or videos, and write and read brief updates about your grandchildren.

Who Can Use It?
Anyone — but especially your grandchild's parents. Wee Web was created for new parents to share milestones and precious images with their nearest and dearest. Grandparents already seem to be reaping the benefits. Linda Sturtz of North Canton, Ohio says her daughter got her hooked on Wee Web. "I love getting pictures of my grandson," she tells us, "because we don't live in the same state. But what I like best is being able to comment and let my daughter read everything I say!" Anita Marcus, grandmother of two, agrees, adding, "It's so easy to interact with. Lots of fun with no headaches."

How It Works
Go to www.wee-web.com/tellfriends. Enter your name in the "From" field, and your grandchild's parents' e-mail address where indicated, and click "Invite." Wee Web takes it from there — they'll send your grandchild's parents an e-mail with simple instructions for setting up a free Wee Web account so they can create a page for your family. For example, they can create a page for your grandchildren called "Bobby and Susie," then invite you (and anyone else ... including Bobby and Susie's other grandparents) to add to the page: updates, photos, stories ... whatever you want. Whenever your family's page is updated, Wee Web will send you an e-mail. It's secure and private — only you and the people your grandchild's parents designate can view your family's page.

Why We Love It
Grandparents are always asking us for ways to stay connected to their grandchildren when they're not around — but nobody likes pestering their grandchildren's parents for updates. This makes it easy on both of you: The parents can post quick one-liners (Newsflash! Teddy is cutting two teeth already!) and photos in less than a minute. So can you — post updates, photos, and videos any time you want.

The bottom line: If you're looking for an easy way to stay in the loop, we think the service that Wee Web offers is worth a look.
