Forum Post Do you remember the first time you held your grandchild?

I do. I was sitting in the waiting room of the hospital with my wife when my son came out. He told me we were allowed to go into the room to see our daughter-in-law and their new son (my grandson!) Bo.

I was a little nervous. It had been years (has it been 27 years already?) since I held a baby in my arms. I bet you wouldn't be surprised to hear that it felt just like I remembered it. Amazing.

So to ask again... do you remember the first time you held your grandchild?

I can remember the first time I held my granddaughter, Sydney. She was an absolute angel and still is in my eyes. I was lucky, I was able to be involved in the delivery of my sons first daughter! It was one of the most wonderful things Ive ever experienced in my life with the exception of the birth of my own 2 children. And the reaction of my husband was one I will never forget. He wanted a boy so bad, went out and bought boys things, (we didnt get to know the sex, Sydney wouldnt cooperate during the ultra-sound) so when they told him it was a girl, I was afraid that he would be disappointed. But when he seen her He feel in love with her.

Oh, gosh YES! I remember. I'll never forget. She was a bundle of pink. Beautiful in every way I'd ever imagined she'd be and still is to this day, 3 years later. She is my angel in every sense of the word.

I clearly remember the first time I held my grandson Dimitri. Our daughter had some complications just before delivery and had to have a C-section so I wasn't able to be with her. But as soon as we were called to see her, it was peck on her check and then some serious Grandma-Grandson time. He made so many faces. I'm sure he liked the dark much better especially since Grandma had the camera in his face!! But I have so say it was the most satisfying moment of my life. When you have raised your own children and lived to see them begin their own legacy, nothing can match it!!

I can't help but remember; it was little less than two weeks ago! He was only 5 hours old, and I held him while the nurse did some things with mom. He just slept - didn't even say "Hi, Grandma!" LOL He was so tiny, littler than my babies had been, that he almost had no weight at all. Ten perfect fingers and ten perfect toes. Later in the day, I got to change his first poopy diaper; and right after that I got to change the second diaper because he did it again!

I sure do remember the first time I held Victoria. It was the next morning after she was born. Her Mom had a c-section and was very shaky afterwards. She didn't want anybody to hold her, except her husband. It was very important for her to hold Victoria first. After all she is the mother. The next day we all had our chance.

Well, It may have been 11 years but yes I remember. Ti-Anne was only about 30 seconds old when I got to hold her. My son and I helped deliver her. So beautiful, dark black hair and rosebud lips !
Perfect pink skin. I was on cloud nine for weeks ! Other than having my own children, Ti-Anne has been one of the best things that's happened to me.

I remember very well the first time I held Hailey. She seemed so tiny, but was 8# and I couldn't believe that came out of my tiny daughter! She of course captured my heart immediately. It was about an hour after she was born.
I remeber even more the first time I held Joline. Heather didn't have the father in with her. He hasn't shown any real interest since Heather was pregnant...his loss. Anyways, I was there when Joline was born and cut her cord. Heather wanted to complete the cycle that started with her birth. My DH was out of country when she was born and my mother was there. Just like my mother, I saw Joline before Heather did. Then after Heather held her, she passed her to me and I got to look into those eyes for the first time. Both experiences were wonderful.

OOOOOOOOOh My Goodness, YES! Hannah was a last-minute c-section so her little head and face were just perfectly shaped. Just as soon as the nurse was finished with her I grabbed her up and looked at the perfect and beautiful face; blue-eyed and red hair, it was like looking at her mama 23 years earlier. Her daddy was heading back to Iraq in just a few days so I gave her up much sooner than I wanted to. Almost three years later I am still amazed at her sweetness and beauty.

Our son-in-law had called to tell us that the contractions had peaked so we rushed down to the hospital. But, the contractions didn't peak again until many, many hours (about 12) later. We never left the hospital. We didn't want to miss that magical moment. Our son-in-law finally came down beaming to announce that our first grandchild was born. Then he went back up to spend some time with his wife and new child. After a short while we went up and were able to hold her for the first time. It is amazing, the feeling that comes over you when you hold your new grandchild. I think that every grandparent will say that it is something that just can't be totally understood until you experience it yourself. It is something you never forget.

I remember very well!! It was the day befor Thanksgiving last year. My daughter had complications so when the hospital admitted her I rushed from work to the hospital. We waited and waited then my daughter sent me home to change clothes and grab a bite to eat, I didn't want to leave the hospital but she insisted. When I got home the phone rang and it was my son in law saying to get back to the hospital asap. By the time I got back to the hospital my daughter was in the or having a c-section!! Not to long after that I looked down the hallway and there was my son and law and a nurse. The nurse was wrapping my grandson up in a blanket!!..I missed the whole thing! What a handsom baby grandson, Releigh was only 6 lbs but such a cutie I held him for a second then the nurse whisked him away. My daughter was very sick so the doctor had decided to do a emergency c-section Releigh was just fine though. My daughter was a real champ through the whole thing. We had Thanksgiving dinner in the hospital. lol

I held Greta for the first time last Friday night. They did a c-section and found that the cord was wrapped twice around her neck. She was and is a miracle in every sense of the word to me. It was a great surprise the day our daughter told us she was pregnant. The doctors weren't sure she'd be able to have children. She's living proof that God answers prayer!

Are you kidding? I will never forget that beautiful baby girl as I held her and sobbed. I had always wanted lots of children but could only have my wonderful daughter. To hold my granddaughter was like a dream come true. Now I have a grandson to hold and love also. I was there in the hospital when both of the children were born. It was such a thrill.
