What is the greatest thing about being a grandparent?
The greatest thing about being a grandparent is the fact that your job is simply to love them. Spoil them, yes but mostly just love them. Some discipline but not too much, enforcing what they learn at home. BUT you don't have to worry about saving for college or whether their favorite shirt is washed or if they need a bath tonight...all you have to do is to love them. And when they get cranky you can give them back. It's like having another chance to parent a child only now you can do it so much better even if things have changed. You have experience now and are not so nervous about every little thing. Being a grandparent is the reward for all the stuff your kids put you through when they were kids.
If you want to get to know me, I would start by telling you...
My grand daughter just turned 4. She is the focus of my life. She has inspired me to write a journal for her, as well as a book about my family history. We don't believe much in the hereafter in this family but we concentrate on the here and now. All we leave behind are memories and a legacy. Since I came to this rather late in life and did not become a grandmother until i was 64 years old, she won't have me around as long as I had my "Oma" who was 84 when she died. I was 38 and remember her very clearly. She was my model of a strong and independent woman. i couldn't wait to grow old and be just like her. I hope my grand daughter feels the same way about me.
