I've come to grandparenting via a rather unconventional route, having skipped the intermediate step of having kids myself!

What I call my "de facto" grandkids arrived in my life through my SO's daughter, Cindi. They are: Zack (4) and his half-sister Jenna (1) who live with Cindy and her SO, Joe. Jenna's half-brother Thomas, Joe's son, (11) lives with them on alternate weeks. Jenna's and Thomas' half-sisters Lola (4) and Opal (1), Joe's other daughters, visit on weekends, depending on the mood of their Mom, Joe's Ex.

Don't worry if you can't follow that. It sure doesn't matter to any of us that we're not all legally related!
